Mission

VOICES seeks to deepen the public appreciation of vocal music by performing outstanding choral works at the highest possible artistic level. VOICES seeks to inspire audiences through creative programming and exceptional performances of masterworks from the past as well as music of our time. VOICES seeks to educate audiences through lively pre-concert discussions and through opportunities for audience, composers and artists to meet informally. VOICES seeks to develop appreciation of new music and the composition process by encouraging children to compose music. It is VOICES' goal to educate audience and performers for the future, both children and adults, through innovative, comprehensive programs for families, schools and diverse communities.

Sponsors

VOICES appreciates your support of our Chorale, Sotto Voce, outreach and children's composition performances. Your contributions have enabled VOICES to grow in numbers and in the quality of music we offer to the community. Each season, VOICES is able to expand its vocal repertoire, and many of our members become engaged in vocal training at their own expense to further improve the quality of our music. We sincerely hope that you will continue or increase your contributions for the current 25th Anniversary concert season.

Why Contribute?

Service Area and Community Service

Directed Grant Examples:

  • $300 would underwrite annual dues and music costs for a school age Chorale member.
  • $700 would fund venue rental costs for a typical concert.
  • $400 would fund postage for a single fundraising letter.
  • $2500 would fund half of the annual sheet music costs for musicians.
  • $5000 would fund an expanded marketing program to increase our outreach to the community.
  • $8000 would fund an administrative function to coordinate group volunteer activities.
  • $10,000 would fund one third of professional staff compensation.

Project Specific Grants

  • Scheduled concert funding: Each set of two concerts typically costs approximately $5000, with three sets scheduled per season.
  • Concerts to targeted groups/areas: Special concerts can be developed for the grantor's area of interest, such as company employee/customer functions, senior citizens, the handicapped, hospital residents, school and youth groups, and other targeted audiences. Cost will likely range between $1000 - $2000 per concert.
  • Young Composers Project: VOICES conducts composition workshops for children ages 5 through 12, including public performances of selected works, which requires $2000 in annual funding.
  • Unrestricted Grants for Fixed Expenses: Fixed expenses are approximately $40,000 per year, funded mainly by the dues, personal contributions and fundraising efforts of our members. Unrestricted grant support would allow us to widen our community service activities and broaden our membership base.

VOICES serves the Mercer County, NJ and Bucks County, PA areas with professional quality choral music performed by unpaid Chorale members, with a varied and stimulating repertoire, adding a rich contribution to the areas' cultural life by educating both audiences and Chorale members through the performance of great choral music. VOICES is recognized and known for high quality performances, led by its nationally known music director, Dr. Lyn Ransom, and is often asked to perform with area orchestral ensembles, performs with other groups at prestigious venues, and has toured internationally.

VOICES has a track record of outstanding community service reaching schools, hospitals, young people, and senior citizens in our 25-year history. Recent examples include special concerts for senior citizens at the Rossmoor Center, the Presbyterian Homes, and the Attleboro, D'Youville and Twining Village assisted living facilities. The Chorale conducts an annual Children's Composition Contest for community youth, helping to educate and develop interest in music.

VOICES performance income from ticket sales and free will contributions cover only a small portion of its expenses, as is true of almost all fine arts organizations. It depends on support from its Chorale members, individuals, businesses, foundations and governmental agencies to be able to continue to serve the area, and is organized as a non-profit entity. VOICES is sustained by our season contributors. Your contributions enable VOICES to provide the best possible concert spaces, soloists and instrumentalists in the area for your enjoyment. You can also make scholarships available to singers that could not otherwise perform with us without financial assistance.

Responsible and Prudent Use of Funds

VOICES is prudent and responsible in its use of contributed funds. Its Chorale members contribute time and talent for all rehearsals and performances, and fund a significant portion of annual expenses, which are primarily for the professional staff, venue rentals, music, marketing, and fund raising. Concert ticket and CD sales defray a portion of expenses. VOICES contribution to the community is recognized by leading arts organizations, leading to funding support from the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission in partnership with the New Jersey Council on the Arts / Department of State, and, in the past, the Genuardi Family Foundation and the 5-County Arts Fund, a Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts program of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency.

Recognition of Your Support

VOICES sponsors receive wide recognition in concert programs and mailings, which reach over 2500 homes and businesses, as well as marketing materials and press releases, unless anonymity is requested.

We need the help of former contributors and new concert goers to continue these offerings. VOICES is a labor of love for its members and hard-working Board of Trustees. Ticket sales and your tax-deductible contributions provide the majority of our season funds. Please be generous.
